All jurisdictions in Poudre Fire Authority have approved the 2006 International Fire Code and the local amendments. This means that PFA is now using the IFC to determine minimum requirements for review of building plans, fire-suppression-system operation, fire investigations and fire-safety inspections. Fire Code amendments for the City of Fort Collins, Timnath and Poudre Valley Fire Protection District can be viewed under the Reports page.
The Town of Timnath on April 1 became the final jurisdiction in PFA to adopt the 2006 IFC and its local amendments. The code was previously adopted by the City of Fort Collins on January 6, 2009 and the Poudre Valley Fire Protection District on December 8, 2008, and ratified by Larimer County in January 2009.
The purpose of the fire code is “to establish the minimum requirements … to provide a reasonable level of life safety and property protection from the hazards of fire, explosion or dangerous conditions in new and existing buildings, structures and premises and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations” (Section 101.3).
The fire code determines requirements for firefighting-related issues such as emergency vehicle access, fire hydrants, and automatic fire sprinklers and other fixed fire protection.
Prior to adoption of the new code, PFA had been operating under the 1997 Uniform Fire Code.
