While Poudre Fire Authority does not recommend any brand over another, the type of smoke detector for your situation can make a difference. There are two major kinds of smoke detectors, namely ionization and photoelectric. These vary in how they detect fire. Ionization detectors tend to alert faster in flaming type fires while photoelectric tend to alarm faster in smoldering fires. In either case it is very important to change smoke detector batteries on a regular basis and cleaning them regularly with pressurized air to prevent nuisance activation.
